Cops rush to church for a bomb threat and find meth instead, Kansas police say

A bomb threat had cops rushing to the parking lot of a church in Kansas last week, police say.

They found meth but no explosives.

Cherokee County sheriff’s deputies went to the church Thursday afternoon in Scammon, a small city in southeast Kansas, after learning of a heated argument outside the building, according to a news release. A woman was accused of saying she had a bomb in a vehicle, police said.

Kansas State Troopers and a Quapaw Tribal Marshals Office K-9 unit specializing in detecting explosives were then called to the scene.

The K-9 unit didn’t find a bomb. However, a narcotics K-9 unit from the sheriff’s office detected meth and marijuana in the vehicle, police said.

Melissa (Rakestraw) Miranda, 36, and Kevin Gray, 60, both from nearby Pittsburg, are charged with possession of meth with intent to distribute, possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia. Miranda also was charged with criminal threat.
