4.1 magnitude earthquake recorded in southern Kansas

An earthquake registering 4.1 on the Richter scale occurred near Harper, Kansas, at about 9:55 on Tuesday morning, the U.S. Geological Survey reported on its website.

The center of the activity seemed to be located about 4 1/2 miles southeast of town the USGS website reported.

Harper is about 50 miles southwest of Wichita in Harper County.
