Ameristar Casino in KC to reopen Monday with new measures to protect against COVID-19

Ameristar Casino Hotel Kansas City will reopen June 1 with new protocols in place to prevent the spread of the coronavirus, according to a company news release.

The casino at 3200 North Ameristar Drive will open its doors at 11 a.m. Monday.

Missouri Gov. Mike Parson ordered casinos closed on March 17 as COVID-19 began to spread in the state.

As of Wednesday, at least 12,492 people have contracted the virus and 696 have died, according to the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services.

Boyd Gaming, which owns the casino, said employees will be given a supply of masks, dice will be sanitized for each new shoot and dealer equipment will be cleaned regularly. Social distancing practices will be maintained including around the slots and table games.

Visitors are encouraged to wear masks, the company said, which will be available for free.

“As we get back to business in Kansas City, our top priority will be protecting the health and safety of our guests and our team members through a comprehensive set of safety protocols that fulfill the most stringent requirements set by local, state and federal officials,” Keith W. Henson, senior vice president of operations for Boyd Gaming, said in a statement.
