Harrisonville has a proposed solution for bad-tasting water

Harrisonville voters will decide Nov. 4 whether they’re willing to pay more for water that tastes better.

“With the improvements being proposed, you will eliminate all of the taste and odor issues that we’ve experienced over the last few years,” public works director Jerry Gibbs told the city’s aldermen before they put the measure on the ballot.

Voters will consider $7 million in combined water and sewer revenue bonds to fund most of the $9.5 million cost of the upgrade. If the voters say yes, the city will use $2.5 million in revenue bonds that were approved previously.

To pay back the bond over 20 years, the city would phase in a rate hike that eventually would raise water bills about $12 a month for the average residential customer.

Officials say the upgrade also will allow Harrisonville to extend the life of the water system.
