The 'miner' in Trump's 'Working in America' ad isn't American
You can’t get anything past those eagle eyes at BuzzFeed, who have spotted something not so red-white-and-blue about one of Donald Trump’s America-themed ads.
Two Trump ads running on the Politico website declare that “a working America is a winning America.” Both ads feature a photo of miner in a hard hat — presumably one of the coal miners that Trump and Hillary Clinton have been arguing over.
But that miner isn’t a member of the West Virginia Coal Association, which endorsed Trump in May.
He’s Dutch model Jan Jonkhout dressed up as a miner, BuzzFeed reports. And the photo was taken by a Dutch photographer based in the Netherlands.
The photo is a stock picture found on the Shutterstock website.
BuzzFeed was also the first to report something awry in one of Marco Rubio’s political ads during the Republican primaries earlier this year.
A “Morning Again” ad that called to mind Ronald Reagan’s “Morning in America” slogan featured a city skyline — of Vancouver, Canada.
