Sinquefield giving $10,000 a week to Missouri governor hopeful Hanaway

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. – Wealthy political activist Rex Sinquefield has been making weekly gifts to the Missouri gubernatorial campaign of Republican Catherine Hanaway.

Online Missouri Ethics Commission records show Hanaway’s campaign committee has received $10,000 each Monday for each of the past three weeks from Sinquefield.

Those regular donations follow a lump sum contribution of $750,000 from Sinquefield in mid-October and raise Hanaway’s total haul from him to $830,000.

Sinquefield is a retired investment firm founder who has been one of Missouri’s most active political donors in recent years. He has backed efforts to cut income taxes and revamp public school teacher evaluation methods.

Hanaway is a former U.S. attorney and Missouri House speaker who is the only declared GOP gubernatorial candidate for 2016.

Democratic Attorney General Chris Koster also is campaigning for governor.
