Rand Paul in Kansas urging GOP support for Pat Roberts
WICHITA – Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul is urging Kansas Republicans to set aside any lingering divisions from a close primary and unite behind Sen. Pat Roberts in next week’s elections.
Paul is headlining a fly-around tour Tuesday with Roberts, Gov. Sam Brownback and other top Kansas officials. The campaign swing is part of an effort to persuade Republicans that Roberts’ re-election is essential to the party’s efforts to wrest control of the Senate away from Democrats.
Roberts faces independent candidate Greg Orman, who was keeping a comparatively low campaign profile Tuesday.
During a rally with more than 200 people at a Wichita airport hangar, Paul and Roberts repeatedly asserted that Orman really is a liberal Democrat.
Orman has not said which party he would caucus with, if elected.
