Republican Missouri Rep. Chris Lonsdale lost his bid Tuesday for a second term representing Clay County in the Missouri General Assembly to his Democratic opponent, Martin Jacobs.

Both men live in Liberty, where Jacobs was formerly principal of Liberty North High School and won 51% of the vote to Lonsdale’s 49% in the race to represent House District 38.

Among the bills Lonsdale sponsored while in Jefferson City was one requiring that all public school shower rooms, locker rooms and restrooms be designated for and used by students according to their sex assigned at birth.

Jacobs campaigned on a platform that called for putting a priority on increased school funding.
