When do you have to register to vote in KS, MO? See the presidential election timeline

With 106 days until the general election, President Joe Biden withdrew his candidacy Sunday and endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris.

Kansas and Missouri voters have less than four months to prepare for the November election between a to-be-determined Democratic nominee and former President Donald Trump. Biden’s replacement should be officially chosen by the end of the Democratic National Convention on Aug. 22, if not earlier.

No matter if you’re a Democrat, Republican or part of another party, here is what you need to prepare for the 2024 presidential election in the Kansas City area.

What is the deadline to register to vote for the presidential election?

You have until October to register to vote in time for the November election in the Kansas City area.

In Kansas, the deadline to register to vote for the Nov. 5 election is Tuesday, Oct. 15. You can check your voter status on the Kansas Secretary of State website.

To vote in the presidential election in Missouri, you must be registered to vote by Wednesday, Oct. 9. You can check your voter status on the Missouri Secretary of State website.

How do I register to vote in Kansas and Missouri?

You’ll need to update your voter registration if you changed your name or moved within the state or from out of state, or you might run into problems while voting. In addition, citizens who will be 18 years old by Election Day can register to vote before their birthday.

In Kansas, you can either update your registration online — if you have a valid driver’s license or non-driver’s ID card — or mail a form to your election board.

To register to vote in Missouri, you’ll need to fill out a form and then mail it to your local election board.

When is the 2024 presidential election?

Americans will go to the polls on Tuesday, Nov. 5, for the 2024 general election to choose the next president.

But first, Kansas and Missouri will hold a primary election Tuesday, Aug. 6, for state and local offices.
