Union Station voting site still open for Tuesday election despite NFL Draft construction
Kansas City’s municipal primary election is Tuesday, and early voting is underway.
If you’re heading to vote at Union Station, be aware of the roads that are closed as the construction crew puts together the stage for the NFL Draft.
Some Kansas Citians posted on social media about not being able to access the polling site inside Union Station. While it may be more challenging than usual to get inside, it’s still possible from multiple entrances. Representatives with Union Station confirmed the building and its functions will remain open in the time leading up to the draft, including the polling site.
West Pershing Road between Broadway Street and Main Street is closed for NFL Draft preparation. That closure affects the South Plaza Parking Lot in front of Union Station. But keep in mind: Broadway Street and Broadway Boulevard are two different roads. Broadway Street is the ramp used to access Union Station’s parking structure.
If you’re headed to Union Station to vote, The West Yards Garage is open from Broadway Boulevard to Pershing Road and has 30 minutes of free parking for visiting voters.
Direct access to Union Station from West Pennway Street and Broadway Boulevard to east Pershing Road is still open for anyone driving to the polls.
The south doors to Union Station are closed for draft construction, so voters can walk in through both east and west entrances, along with the lower west entry from the West Yards Garage.
Anyone within Kansas City’s city limits can vote at Union Station, according to the Kansas City Election Board.
