Twitter was distracted by fan blowing Ivanka’s hair, but viewers preferred her to Donald Trump

Don’t think for a minute that Ivanka Trump didn’t feel a little bit of panic as she stepped onto the stage at the Republican National Convention on Thursday to introduce her father.

“I am terrified,” she told Savannah Guthrie in an interview on Today. “I’ve never spoken in a stadium like this, but really I just want to make sure I do a great job for him.”

Trump, 34, was given the responsibility of giving the speech that’s usually given by the nominee’s wife on closing night. Her father left the speech up to her, she told ABC.

“I think he wants it to come from my heart,” she said.

Surely dear ol’ dad didn’t think that her speech would leave people feeling better about themselves and their lives than his speech.

But it did. It really did, declared Twitter, which blew up with commentary about her speech.

The pundits and Trump fans alike scored Trump highly on the substance of her speech.

She should run for office, people said.

Especially since she had such a great walk-up song.

And can you just imagine?

A few people wish she would have spent a little longer rehearsing.

But Democrats rejoiced because so much of her speech sounded familiar to them.

It’s amazing that people heard what she was actually saying, given that so many of them were distracted by the fan blowing on her face.

And no amount of rehearsing could have averted yet another awkward Donald Trump moment on stage. He tried to air kiss his running mate, Mike Pence, on Wednesday.

On Thursday? It looked like got a little handsy with his daughter.
