Kansas voters seeking political party change face June 1 deadline

Kansas voters who want to change their political party affiliation before the Aug. 2 primary have until noon June 1 to do so, the secretary of state’s office says.

Voters can change their party preference in person at county-based election offices or online. Offices will be closed on Monday, which is Memorial Day.

Voters who are registered but unaffiliated can wait until the August primary to declare a party preference, the office says. But voters who have already picked a party and who want to change to another party must meet the June 1 deadline.

Primaries are anticipated for statehouse races, federal offices and district attorney in Wyandotte County.

June 1 is also the deadline for candidates to declare their intention to run for office.
