Former U.S. Rep. Jan Meyers of Kansas has formally endorsed Gov. Sam Brownback for re-election.

The incumbent’s re-election campaign on Monday released a statement claiming the endorsement:

The Star reported last week that Meyers said she had not intended to endorse Paul Davis, the Democratic candidate for governor. Her name was included on a list of more than 100 Republicans endorsing Davis. The Davis campaign distributed the list.

Since that release, a handful of Republicans on it have said their registrations have flipped in the past among Republican, Democratic and independent designations.

Some Republicans who worked on the group supporting Davis said Meyers, 86, may have been confused during their discussions of the governor’s race. At the same time, former GOP state Sen. Dick Bond said Meyers had “every right” to state her views on the race.
