As Kansas City’s water and sewer rates continue to soar, Mayor Sly James has appointed a task force to study the cost of water services.

The group will be led by Mayor Pro Tem Scott Wagner and will include a broad cross section of water users and constituents dealing with environmental issues, urban gardening, low-income residents, schools, business interests, wholesale users and other concerns.

The first meeting is Tuesday from 4 to 6 p.m. at the KC Water Auditorium, 4800 E. 63rd St. Parking is on the north side of the building. The agenda includes a presentation on the current and historical rate structure and funding challenges.
