Former Royals second baseman Frank White will seek the voters’ approval to serve the final two years of Mike Sanders’ third four-year term as Jackson County executive.

The county legislature appointed White last month to the job for the rest of this year, but the county charter requires that voters decide who will fill the job through 2018. Sanders, who had held the post since 2006, resigned Dec. 31.

Filing for the Aug. 2 primary begins Tuesday. White said Monday that he will run as a Democrat.

No one else has announced their intention to run for the post. The filing deadline is March 29.
