Rabid bat found in Lee’s Summit home

Lee’s Summit authorities said a rabid bat was found earlier this week inside a residence in the 800 block of Northeast Chestnut Street.

The bat was dead before animal control officers responded to the residence on Sunday. It later tested positive for rabies. No human or pet contact was reported.

Residents should avoid contact with dead or sick animals, and they should have their pets vaccinated each year against rabies, police said.
