Mayor appoints commission to help fill council vacancy

Kansas City Mayor Sly James has appointed the citizens commission to help fill the vacancy from 5th District Councilman Michael Brooks’ resignation.

Co-chairs will be Erika Brice, who works in real estate and community development, and Riccardo Lucas, a housing development finance professional. The others are Karen Downey, with Downey Construction; Becky Forest, retired from Black & Veatch; and Paul Lillig, a design-build specialist for seniors and people with disabilities.

Applications for the vacancy are due Jan. 9 and this group will then recommend three finalists for the City Council to interview before choosing Brooks’ replacement.
