Legal Aid gets a big grant to help neighborhoods
Legal Aid of Western Missouri has won a two-year, $257,441 grant to provide more services to struggling urban core neighborhoods.
The agency is one of 15 recipients of the Washington, D.C.-based Legal Services Corp.’s $4 million Pro Bono Innovation Fund, a competitive grant program.
The Adopt-A-Neighborhood project connects lawyers at no charge to address neighborhood concerns. Legal problems can range from clearing title to abandoned properties to negotiating to bring a grocery store to a neglected area.
The project also expands opportunities to link large law firms to low-income communities and provides training for new attorneys.
