Merriam fires long-time employee

The Merriam City Council has voted unanimously to fire long-time Merriam Public Works Director Randy Carroll.

Mayor Ken Sissom confirmed that the unanimous vote occurred during a special meeting Sept. 3. Reasons for the firing have not been revealed because it involved a personnel matter, Sissom said.

“The city council met in executive session and from information we received it was determined that he could no longer be employed by the city,” he said.

Assistant City Administrator Christopher Engel is overseeing the public works department until a replacement is named, Sissom said.

Sissom described Carroll as an “excellent public works employee.” He had been with the city 34 years.
