Kansas City missed the bus; Obama joined education bus tour hours later.
Not to take anything away for the accomplishments at the Woodland Early Learning Community School that brought Education Secretary Arne Duncan to Kansas City on Monday, but it was North High School in Des Moines that hit the jackpot.
Later that day President Barack Obama joined the secretary of education at the Iowa high school as part of Duncan’s Annual Back-to-School Bus Tour. The two hosted a town hall meeting with students and parents talking about college access and affordability.
During the discussion, Obama announced a new initiative to simplify the student financial aid process and allow students and parents to apply for federal aid in October rather than January.
