The nation’s top education official will be visiting a school in Kansas City in mid-September.

The U.S. Department of Education has announced that Woodland Early Learning Center will be the first of 11 stops on the department’s sixth annual back-to-school bus tour.

Education officials will be touring the East and Midwest beginning the week of Sept. 14. The theme of this year’s tour is “Ready for Success.”

Education Secretary Arne Duncan will be among the visitors who are scheduled to make a brief stop in Kansas City.

The announcement did not explain why Woodland, in the Kansas City school district, was selected.

Woodland opened two years ago at 711 Woodland Ave. to serve 3- and 4-year-old children. Children with disabilities are included in the daily preschool program. Woodland also is a community school, meaning social service agencies have offices in the building.
