A hack of IRS slowed federal aid to students
A hack against the Internal Revenue Service this May has left some colleges and universities hard pressed to help low income students who are about to start classes, navigate the federal student aid system.
The Chronicle of Education reports that after the hack the IRS shut down its Get Transcript system which allows students and parents access to copies of their tax returns within moments. Students were left to use more time comsuming options to get that information, which dramatically slowed the process.
Students caught in this mess now are up against the clock trying to get their financial aid locked down in time to get the classes they need.
