West Platte High School

Student chosen: Kaleb Baber, a senior, was selected to participate in AgDiscovery this summer at Iowa State University in Ames.

AgDiscovery is a two-week program sponsored by the United States Department of Agriculture. Designed to educate high-school students about careers in plant and animal science and wildlife management, the program allows students to live on campus and learn about agriculture from professors and scientists in a variety of fields.

Students also participated in activities designed to build character and camaraderie and create an appreciation for diversity.

Kaleb is one of 18 students selected from more than 70 applicants.

Park Hill South High School

Scholarship awarded: Shaefer Schuetz earned the Walter Cronkite Scholarship award from the Mid-America chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences.

The award is given to students who demonstrate potential as future broadcast journalists. Schuetz will be recognized at the chapter’s gala in October in St. Louis.

He is a graduate of Park Hill South.

Winnetonka High School

Administrator chosen: Matt Lindsey, principal, has been named Principal of the Year by the Greater Kansas City Missouri Principals Association.

Statewide, eight districts choose an outstanding principal for the honor based on their dedication to helping students and staff. Lindsey will compete against the other district winners for the state honor.

Lindsey became principal of Winnetonka in 2007. He has served as president of the Missouri Association of Secondary School Principals and is currently a board member of the state association.
