With council approval, hope springs anew for Red Bridge Shopping Center

Lane4 Property Group proposes redevelopment of the Red Bridge Shopping Center at Red Bridge and Holmes roads in south Kansas City.

Red Bridge Shopping Center would get a much needed shot of adrenaline under a plan unanimously approved Thursday by the Kansas City Council.

Lane4 Property Group has an $18.6 million proposal to buy and renovate the property and to bring new tenants to the half-empty center at Red Bridge and Holmes roads.

Council approval allows the developer to seek tax abatement from the Planned Industrial Expansion Authority and to pursue a community improvement district for a 1-cent sales tax at the shopping center to bring the concept to reality.

Neighbors around the center lament its deterioration and have given a big thumbs-up to the revitalization plan, saying they want to shop at Red Bridge rather than having to drive miles away and even to Kansas for quality retail offerings.
