Clay Chastain announces quixotic campaign for mayor

Transit activist Clay Chastain formally announced a campaign for Kansas City mayor on Monday.

Chastain conceded his low-budget, quixotic campaign was prompted by his anger over the City Council’s decision to alter his light rail initiative with two tax questions appearing on the Nov. 4 ballot.

If Chastain pursues his mayoral quest, he will have to convince voters that he is a legitimate resident of Kansas City even though he moved away years ago and spends most of his time in Bedford, Va. He says he owns a home with his sister in Kansas City and is registered to vote here, so that makes him a resident.
