Have info on federal firings, layoffs in Kansas City? The Star wants to hear from you
Since President Donald Trump took office last month, the administration has fired or laid off thousands of federal workers in numerous departments across the country as part of its initiative to promote efficiency.
It’s still unclear just how much that ongoing initiative — led by billionaire Elon Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency, or DOGE — will affect Kansas City.
That’s where we need your help. Hearing directly from workers through the form at the bottom of this story will help The Star better report on the jobs lost across the metro and the local effects of the federal firings.
The federal government is one of the biggest employers in the region, with nearly 30,000 workers based here. Internal Revenue Service employees who work out of the Kansas City campus near Union Station are bracing for upwards of 1,000 people losing their jobs this week.
If you have information about federal employee firings and layoffs in the Kansas City-area or a personal story to share, please use the form below. Please note that any personal identifying information won’t be published without your consent.
