KS offers families $1,000 grant to address learning loss during pandemic. How can you apply?
Kansas families can now apply for $1,000 grants to help students recover from learning loss sustained during the early days of COVID-19.
In late 2021, Kansas officials approved using $50 million in federal COVID-19 relief funds to provide direct aid to low income families whose students had fallen behind during remote learning.
Gov. Laura Kelly announced Wednesday that families can now apply for funds. Eligible families can receive $1,000 per student.
Who is eligible?
The funds are available for actively enrolled students between the ages of five and 18 and students with disabilities between the ages of 18 and 21. In order to be eligible, the student’s household income must fall below 185% of the 2022 federal poverty line — that’s $42,606 for a family of three and $51,338 for a family of four.
What can it be used for?
Families can use the funds on tutoring, educational camps, curriculum materials, language classes and musical instruments and lessons. The funds cannot be used on private school tuition.
