Like everyone else in town, Kansas City Council members are giddy about the Royals’ postseason success — so much so that they voted Thursday to temporarily rename Baltimore Avenue as “Royals Avenue.”

Mayor Sly James and others proudly hoisted the signs at Thursday’s council meeting. But that doesn’t mean the street signs along Baltimore Avenue will actually be changing any time soon.

“Entirely symbolic,” said public works spokesman Sean Demory. “We made two signs at a total expense of $5 out of my budget.”

Demory noted that if the Royals win the pennant and the city hosts a parade, parts of some street could be renamed “Royals Way.” But, of course, that’s getting ahead of ourselves.
