Jackson County Executive Frank White tested positive for COVID-19 on Tuesday morning and cast his ballot in the primary election from his car, according to a news release from his office.

In a statement, White said he is “feeling fine” and only experiencing mild symptoms. He is fully vaccinated and has received two booster shots, he said.

White also applauded the Jackson County Board of Elections for the voting options offered to those with COVID-19. Curbside voting was expanded during the early days of the pandemic to allow increased voter access amid fears about spreading the virus.

White, a Democrat, is up for reelection this year and faces a primary challenge from Stacy Lake, a Kansas City lawyer and small business owner. Lake has campaigned on a message of providing better management of county taxpayer dollars.
