Hundreds of mayors to converge on Kansas City for 2024 conference, Lucas announces
Hundreds of mayors from cities around the country will converge on Kansas City for their annual national meeting in June 2024, Mayor Quinton Lucas announced Monday.
The nonpartisan United States Conference of Mayors includes leaders of cities with more than 30,000 people (there are more than 1,400 of those).
Lucas said the conference will bring “millions of dollars to businesses downtown and throughout our region.” The location of the conference has not been announced.
It’s been in the works for several months, and this is the first time Kansas City will host.
Lucas, who is the chairman of the group’s Criminal and Social Justice Committee, said on Twitter that the conference “proves Kansas City truly is on a roll. Now let’s keep our fingers crossed for the World Cup!”
Kansas City is in the running to be one of the host cities for the 2026 FIFA World Cup in North America. FIFA is expected to make the announcement on June 16.
This year’s conference was held in Reno, Nevada. In 2023, it will move to Columbus, Ohio.
