First lady Jill Biden will arrive in the Kansas City area around midday Tuesday for an event this is expected to focus on listening to the concerns of Hispanic Americans.

Biden is making a series of stops across the country during National Hispanic Heritage Month, including at El Centro Academy in Kansas City, Kan. El Centro, a pre-K school, is bilingual, helping children maintain their home language while also preparing them to be taught in English in Kindergarten, according to its website.

The first lady’s plane is scheduled to arrive at Charles B. Wheeler Downtown Airport at 12:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Biden will then be joined by Rep. Sharice Davids and U.S. Small Business Administrator Isabella Garcias Guzman for a “charla” at El Centro. Charla is the Spanish word for chat.

“Dr. Biden will listen to the personal stories, challenges, and concerns of Hispanic Americans and leaders in these communities as she has been doing in person and virtually for over a year,” the White House said when it announced details of the visit last week.

In June, Davids visited El Centro, where she touted the impact of federal COVID-19 relief dollars.
