Kansas, Missouri voters must register soon to participate in Nov. 4 elections
Missouri voters seeking to cast a ballot in this November’s election have until Wednesday to get registered.
In Kansas, voters have until Oct. 14.
Voters in both states can fill out registration forms in person at a local election office or in various other locations, such as a local Department of Motor Vehicles office. Registration forms also can be mailed in or filled out online in Missouri at www.sos.mo.gov/votemissouri and in Kansas at www.kdor.org/voterregistration.
If registering for the first time in Kansas, a voter must submit a document proving he or she is a U.S. citizen. Birth certificates, passports, naturalization documents, military records and other documents are acceptable. Missouri residents are required only to present a form of personal identification, such as a drivers license.
After the application is processed, the voter should receive notice from the local election authority by mail that he or she is registered.
In Kansas, any registered voter can cast an early ballot by mail or in person before Election Day. The deadline to apply for an early ballot is Oct. 31. Those ballots must be returned to the local election office by the close of polls on Election Day.
Missourians are allowed to vote early only if they provide one of a specific set of reasons they will be prevented from going to their polling place on Election Day. Requests for absentee ballots must be received by mail or fax in the county election office no later than 5 p.m. Oct. 29. Those who are eligible can vote by absentee ballot in the office of the local election authority until 5 p.m. Nov. 3.
