This producer is asking Hollywood to back Democrats. He’s already donated to Bollier

Michael Schur — director and writer for popular shows like “The Office” and “The Good Place” — has implored fellow Hollywood writers to give to the union’s political action committee in hopes of helping Democrats win upcoming Senate races.

According to Variety, Schur sent a memo to members of the Writers Guild of America West (WGAW) last week, sharing his frustration about Senate Republicans’ to confirm rush a successor to Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg before the Nov. 3 election.

“We must flip the Senate and bring in bold leaders who will check the power of the Supreme Court,” Schur wrote, according to Variety.

Schur spoke specifically about the WGAW PAC potentially helping Democratic candidates in Iowa, Montana, North Carolina and Georgia. He also, though, donated to the Kansas race himself, giving Democrat Barbara Bollier $500 on Jan. 6, according to Federal Election Commission data.

So far, Variety reports, the WGAW PAC had not given money to any Democratic Senate candidates as of Aug. 31.

Schur, who has won two Emmys and been nominated 16 other times, said the Democrats he was in favor of supporting “stand with writers on the big issues — protecting unions, our healthcare and pension plans, fair competition and first amendment rights.”
