KC will fill another municipal court vacancy

For the third time this year, the Kansas City Council will be filling a municipal court judge vacancy.

Judge John Williams did not file for retention in the June 23 election so he will be retiring from the bench as of July 31.

The Municipal Judicial Nominating Commission announced Monday it is soliciting applications from lawyers to fill the vacancy left by Williams’ departure. Applications are due July 24. The commission is expected to nominate three candidates in mid-August. The City Council then interviews the finalists and makes the judicial appointment.
