Fallen firefighter to be honored in Shawnee

The Shawnee Fire Department is planning a ceremony Friday to honor a firefighter killed five years ago in the line of duty.

Fire Station 71 at 65th Street and Quivira Road, which houses department headquarters, will be renamed the John B. Glaser Fire Station.

Glaser, 33, was a six-year fire department member when he died May, 22, 2010. He was searching a house for possible victims during a fire when he lost contact with the rest of his crew and was overcome by smoke.

Friday’s ceremony will take place at fire headquarters from 6 to 8:30 p.m.
