The Truman Foundation will honor Rep. Emanuel Cleaver

U.S. Rep. Emanuel Cleaver will receive a public service award that has previously been bestowed upon presidents and members of the U.S. Supreme Court.

The Truman Foundation announced Monday that the former Kansas City mayor, who is in his seventh term as a Democratic congressman, will receive the 2018 Harry S. Truman Good Neighbor Award.

The foundation pointed to Cleaver’s leadership in developing the 18th and Vine district during his tenure as mayor and his work on civil rights and housing issues as member of Congress. The awards luncheon will take place May 4 in the Downtown Marriott in Kansas City.

Past recipients of the award include Presidents Bill Clinton and Gerald Ford.
