Independence names new fire chief

John Greene has been named Independence’s new fire chief, city officials announced.

Greene had been the acting fire chief since the retirement of Chief Sandy Schiess on May 16.

Greene joined the department as a firefighter in July 1987. After a number of promotions, he became deputy chief of operations in August 2008.
