Trump tells NRA conference he’s concerned about how many guns his sons have
Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump said his sons may have too many guns.
“They have so many rifles and so many guns even I get a little bit concerned,” Trump said in a speech Friday at the National Rifle Association conference.
Despite his flip-flopping on gun rights, Trump said he has been a member of the organization for “a long time.”
The powerful gun rights lobby endorsed Trump just before the presumptive nominee took the stage Friday afternoon. The candidate said he didn’t know he’d be getting the endorsement, and called it “a fantastic honor.”
Both the NRA and Trump railed against Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton for her stance on gun rights.
“Hillary Clinton wants to abolish the Second Amendment. Just remember that,” Trump said.
The candidate bounced between his traditional off-the-cuff speaking style and his prepared notes in his speech at the national convention in Louisville, Ky.
“Hillary wants to disarm vulnerable Americans in high-crime neighborhoods,” Trump read from a sheet of paper on his podium.
He said Clinton wants to release “all the violent criminals” from prison.
“In my opinion that’s what she’s going to go for,” Trump said.
