Homeless man accused of stealing Mother’s Day card, his 93rd arrest
When you care enough to steal the very best ... you get caught.
It happened over the weekend to Oswald Jones, a 56-year-old homeless man in New York City who walked into a Hallmark store inside the Port Authority Bus Terminal looking for something special for his mom.
According to the New York Post he picked out a sparkly $6.99 blue and white card.
The outside of the card said “Mom.”
The inside read: “You’ve been a lifesaver more often than you know.”
Jones stashed it in a bag and tried to walk away with it, but employees saw him.
One worker told the Post that the manager took the card away from him and told Jones to leave but Jones really wanted the card and started cursing at the manager.
Port Authority police saw the two arguing and arrested Jones - who had 92 previous arrests on his record dating back to 1989, according to court documents.
He was charged with petty larceny and criminal possession of stolen property.
After spending the night in jail a judge released him on Sunday, Mother’s Day, the Post reports.
While in custody Jones could be heard declaring, “I really love my mother.”
