Florida Landlord, 78, Sliced Tenant With Machete During Argument Over Trash

A landlord in Florida allegedly attacked his tenant with a machete after they got into an argument over items that needed to be thrown out at the home.

Victor Rodriguez-Polledo has been charged with aggravated battery with a deadly weapon after the alleged attack took place around 5 p.m. on Wednesday, June 10.

When officers arrived at the home, they found the victim bleeding from his right arm as he held a piece of clothing on his wrist, according to a probable cause arrest affidavit viewed by Law & Crime.

The victim told authorities that he and Rodriguez-Polledo, 78, were standing in the hallway of the home when they got into an argument about "items that needed to be thrown out."

"What the f*** are you looking at?" Rodriguez-Polledo allegedly yelled in Spanish. "You'll see what I have for you."

The victim then walked outside and Rodriguez-Polledo followed him with a machete. The landlord then allegedly started to hit the victim with the machete in the right shoulder and arm before he swung the weapon a second time. The tenant was then able to block the machete on the second hit, which left a deep laceration.

The tenant then pushed Rodriguez-Polledo against a fence as he tried to get the machete away from him, and the two reportedly fell on the ground.

As the victim and Rodriguez-Polledo continued to wrestle, a witness intervened and took away the machete.

Police said that the witness suffered a minor cut to her hand.

Once the situation was under control, paramedics took the victim to the hospital for treatment. He suffered a three-inch-deep cut on his right wrist, and scratches and cuts covered his body.

Rodriguez-Polledo was then arrested and he gave a statement to police. However, it is not clear what he said because the statement was redacted from the affidavit.

Police later walked around the crime scene, where they found a machete in the back of a home with blood on it. It is not currently known if Rodriguez-Polledo sustained injuries during the attack.

Rodriguez-Polledo is currently in custody at Miami-Dade County Jail. He attended his first court hearing on Thursday, June 11, where a judge determined he would be held without bond.

Rodriguez-Polledo will also appear in court regarding the charges on Friday, June 12.

It is not currently clear if Rodriguez-Polledo has entered a plea or retained legal counsel following his arrest.

The investigation into the case remains ongoing.
