Suspect, 1 victim dead in Midland, Texas, mass shooting
June 12 (UPI) -- A suspected shooter died Friday after opening fire at an automotive collision center in Midland, Texas, killing one victim and injuring at least 10 others, the city's mayor announced.
The shooting broke out around 8 a.m. from inside the collision center in the West Texas city, KWES-TV in Odessa reported.
Mayor Lori Blong said in a post on X just before noon that "the active shooter situation has ended and the shooter is confirmed deceased."
A representative for Midland Memorial Hospital said nine people were transported to the facility, with three in surgery and one in recovery. Two others were stable and three were discharged, NBC News reported.
A 10th person was transported to Odessa Medical Center Hospital.
"Our thoughts and prayers are absolutely with the victims and with their families," Blong said.
Officials said the shooting began in one location in southeast Midland and moved to other locations in south Midland. They provided no details on the suspect or motivation for the shooting.
