The parent of an elementary school student threatened his child’s teacher over a snack time dispute, Michigan officials say.

The Macomb County Prosecutor’s Office said 43-year-old David Scott, Jr. approached the Pleasantview Elementary School teacher at dismissal Oct. 22 “upset that his child did not receive a snack at snack time.”

He lobbed threats toward the teacher, saying he would return the next day, the prosecutor said.

The Eastpointe Police Department said the threats came in front of staff, students and parents, who witnessed the parent screaming and cursing, WWJ reported.

Scott told the teacher he would “air the place out,” suggesting he would shoot up the school, Eastpointe Police Lt. Alex Holish told WXYZ.

Holish called the parent “enraged,” the news outlet reported.

“What’s interesting is the school doesn’t even have snack time, anyway. This man wanted special treatment where everything would stop so his kid could eat a snack,” Holish told the Roseville-Eastpointe Eastsider. “If he wanted to change things, he should have taken his concern to a school board meeting — not threaten to shoot up the school.”

When investigators executed a search warrant at Scott’s home, they found ”multiple rounds of ammunition,” which he was not allowed to possess, according to the prosecutor.

Scott was charged with possession of ammunition by a prohibited person, making an intentional threat to commit an act of violence against a school, school employees or students, and disorderly conduct, Macomb County Prosecutor Peter J. Lucido said.

He was jailed on a $150,000 bond, Lucido said.

“There is absolutely no excuse for threatening violence against a school or its staff—especially over something as minor as a classroom snack,” according to the prosecutor.

In a statement to WDIV, Eastpointe Community Schools Superintendent Christina Gibson said she was “grateful” for the police response and the “professionalism” of the school’s staff.

“This type of threatening behavior is unacceptable. Eastpointe Community Schools takes all threats to our schools, our students, and our staff incredibly seriously, and we will not tolerate this kind of behavior at our schools,” she said in the statement.

Eastpointe is about a 10-mile drive northeast from Detroit.
