Death was imminent for deer stuck between road barricades — until cops stepped in
A deer managed to find itself in a life or death situation smack-dab in the middle of a Michigan highway, which prompted rescuers to come save the day.
Deputies with the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office found themselves in a kerfuffle that could’ve ended poorly when they received a call about a deer trapped in a 1-foot gap between cement barriers after being hit by a vehicle on Interstate 75 in Auburn Hills, authorities and CBS Detroit reported.
“In the midst of a busy day, our search and rescue team responded to a call regarding a deer trapped in cement barricades, facing a fatal outcome without expert extraction,” the sheriff’s office posted to Facebook on Oct. 13.
Assistance from local police and first responders was brought in to free the four-point buck without harming it. A technical truck with straps was used to lift the deer out of the concrete wedge, MLive reported.
“Their diligence, training, and hard work paid off, enabling them to rescue the young deer and transfer it to a wildlife rehabilitation center,” the sheriff’s office said about those involved in the rescue.
Auburn Hills is about a 35-mile drive north from Detroit.
