A dog who only months ago was fighting for her life is now thriving and has found a brand new home in Ohio.

The Cincinnati Animal CARE shelter discovered the pup in not only a horrific way but also in an unstable condition, staff said in a Sept. 25 Facebook post.

“This morning at 6:15 a.m., AppleButter was found tied to our fence—abandoned, alone, and fighting for her life,” the shelter said.

“Our team discovered she had been shot in the chest. She lost a liter of blood, which had to be injected back into her to keep her from bleeding out. Against all odds, AppleButter pulled through and is now stable.”

She was shot with an airsoft gun, and the pellet was lodged in her chest, WLWT 5 reported.

Staff at the shelter said they were lucky they found Applebutter when they did.

“I’m just glad that somebody was here this morning and was able to recognize that we were going to be in trouble soon and that we had to do some life-saving stuff pretty quickly to keep her alive,” Amanda Gilbert, medical director for the shelter, told WKRC.

“So, she’s pretty lucky that it all went down that way.”

Over the next few weeks, folks around the country became invested in Applebutter’s recovery progress and her eventual fairytale ending, which came on Oct. 11, less than two months after she was near death.

In a Facebook post filled with photos showing off some pittie onesies, the shelter announced she was getting adopted that day.

“ She hopes all her shelter friends find their forever homes soon—and stay warm while they wait,” the shelter said.
