12-year-old girl taken from sidewalk, raped by convicted sex offender, MI cops say
A Michigan man has been arrested in connection with the rape of a 12-year-old girl who was walking on a sidewalk, according to police.
On Sept. 22, a 12-year-old girl went to the Eastpointe Police Department and reported she was raped at a home, police said at a news conference streamed by WXYZ.
The girl had been walking on a sidewalk between 10 and 11 a.m. when she was approached by a man, police said.
Police said the man then raped her inside a house.
“It is extremely disturbing. I mean, the fact that, you know, we have a young girl that’s walking on the sidewalk and gets approached. And then goes through the traumatic experience that she had to go through. Thankfully she was able to leave the house and get to a family member so that she could contact us,” Eastpointe Police Chief Corey Haines said.
The man, later identified as 52-year-old Andrew Logan Williams, was arrested the next day in New York, about a half hour south of Buffalo, WDIV reported.
Williams is listed as a registered sex offender from a 1997 conviction out of Wyoming, according to the Michigan Sex Offender Registry.
He is charged with two counts of criminal sexual conduct, kidnapping and child abuse commercial activity, court records show.
Police said they found items in the home that could indicate there may be more victims.
