Blind dog is known as the ‘hot mess express’ at Ohio shelter. Find out why
The purest of pure pups, one with a little bit of a wild, hilarious streak, is in need of a home in Ohio that will be able to care for his special needs.
“Sailor: Proof that love is blind (... literally)” the Medina County Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) in Seville said in a Sept. 16 Facebook post.
That’s right, this tan terrier is named Sailor, and he happens to be blind. He came to the shelter with a tragic backstory. His owner was found dead, so the shelter became his new home, one that would end up help manage his issues, which include diabetes and his limited vision.
But he never appeared to let anything discourage his love for life and people.
“Okay friends, we’ve got the most special boy to remind everyone about. His name is Sailor, he’s 7 years old, and honestly… he’s a hot mess,” the shelter said. “Some might say a, ‘hot mess express’. But like, the best kind of hot mess, the kind that makes you laugh, sigh, and melt at the same time.”
The shelter was able to ease some of Sailor’s pain by removing his eyes, which were the source of his suffering.
“So yes, Sailor has no eyeballs. None. But you know what he does have?”
- “A goofy, tail-wagging personality.”
- “An endless supply of love for every person he meets.”
- “A heart so resilient it puts the rest of us to shame.”
Currently, he’s on a specific diet to help ease his diabetes and cut down his “insulin needs.” Since his surgery, Sailor has been showing off his playful side, the shelter noted.
“You can’t tell him he’s different, he’s too busy living his best life and making new friends,” they continued.
He has been vaccinated, fixed, microchipped and flea treated. He’s lived in a house with cats before, but the shelter is not sure how he treated them. The shelter doesn’t know how “exactly how Sailor feels about other dogs.”
“Sailor deserves a home where he can finally rest easy — where he’ll be cherished not in spite of his quirks, but because of them. He may be eyeless, but he sees the world with his heart, and it’s impossible not to fall in love once you meet him,” the shelter said.
