Crossing guard caught in car with 13-year-old said they were ‘dating,’ MI cops say
A Michigan crossing guard was arrested after police say he sexually assaulted a 13-year-old child.
Around 9:45 p.m. Aug. 30, a person called police and reported seeing an “older-looking” man in a vehicle parked near a bridge with a younger female, according to a Sept. 11 Facebook post by the Monroe Public Safety Department.
The caller said the man and child were possibly engaging in “intimate contact,” police said.
A detective arrived and found 23-year-old Timothy Alan Warthen II and a 13-year-old girl.
McClatchy News reached out to Warthen’s attorney for comment but did not immediately hear back.
Warthen was taken into custody and questioned. He told detectives that he and the 13-year-old girl were “dating” and he sexually assaulted her, according to police.
He told authorities he was a part-time crossing guard for Ida Public Schools.
“Ida Public Schools was recently made aware of misconduct allegations involving a part-time, hourly employee that do not appear to involve the Ida district. Upon receiving the information, the district immediately placed the individual on leave,” a statement from Ida Public Schools to McClatchy News said.
There’s no evidence that Warthen engaged in inappropriate conduct with other minors, police said.
Warthen is charged with criminal sexual conduct and children - accosting for immoral purposes and was given a $100,000 bond, court records show.
