Neighbor broke into home and molested kids asleep in bed in Florida, feds say
A man is facing at least 15 years in federal prison after prosecutors said he broke into his neighbor’s Central Florida apartment where three children were sleeping and molested two of them while filming the abuse on his cellphone.
A home surveillance camera inside the bedroom caught David Andrew Ogden, 39, of Winter Park, molesting and recording the children the early morning of Sept. 8, 2024, when the children’s parent had been “working outside of the residence,” according to court filings.
Ogden was arrested that evening, the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Middle District of Florida said in a Sept. 2 news release.
Now, Ogden has pleaded guilty to five counts of production of child sexual abuse material and one count of possession of child sexual abuse material, according to prosecutors.
His court-appointed federal public defender did not immediately return McClatchy News’ request for comment.
After a search warrant was executed on Ogden’s phone, he was found with the child sexual abuse material of his minor neighbors, as well as sexual abuse content he created of two other children in 2022 and 2024.
Investigators also found more than 1,000 photos of child sexual abuse made by AI and “10 AI-generated videos, some of which portrayed the abuse of children between the ages of 2 and 6 years old,” prosecutors said.
The mother of the children he molested on Sept. 8, 2024, called police upon learning Ogden went into her apartment and seeing the surveillance footage of him inside her bedroom, where the children were, according to authorities, WKMG-TV reported.
She believed Ogden got into the home through “the main door after unlocking it through the mail slot,” Winter Park police wrote in an affidavit, according to the TV station.
Ogden sent the woman text messages when police were at her apartment, the affidavit says, in which he appeared to offer to supervise her children, according to WKMG-TV’s report:
“Hey, seriously, Saturday if you need to work. I’m happy to entertain the kids. Have a good night. I know you’re probably sleeping…”
Ogden is facing up to 30 years in prison for each count of production of child sexual abuse material, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office.
He faces up to 20 years in prison for the child sexual abuse material possession charge, prosecutors said.
Ogden is set to be sentenced Nov. 13, according to prosecutors.
Winter Park is about a 5-mile drive north from Orlando.
