Missing 69-year-old hiker dies in fall near glacier, Alaska troopers say

A visitor from Arizona who vanished on a hike has been found dead from a fall near a glacier, Alaska State Troopers reported.

Thomas Casey, 69, was last seen on the morning of Saturday, Aug. 30, on a hike to an unknown location, troopers said in a Sept. 2 dispatch.

Someone reported Casey overdue on Sunday, Aug. 31, troopers said.

Rescuers, including dog teams, followed pings on his phone to find Casey had died of injuries from a fall near the Mendenhall Glacier, troopers said. His body was found at about 5 p.m. Monday, Sept. 1.

His body will be sent to the state medical examiner’s office, troopers said.

The Mendenhall Glacier is about an 840-mile drive southeast from Anchorage.
