Senior dog adopted after 500 days. See pup and Chicago shelter celebrate
A shelter in Illinois is celebrating two major milestones: the adoption of a senior dog that had been at the shelter for over a year and a major facility first.
Introducing Wendy, a dog that has been a longtime resident of Paws Chicago and had been waiting patiently days — 500, to be exact — for that call to come in.
“It’s never too late to find your people — 13-year-old Wendy is finally home!” the shelter said in a Sept. 1 Reel that featured her walking in and celebrating with staff and other folks.
“Wendy came to us over 500 days ago. She was underweight, had multiple masses on her body that would need to be removed, and she was struggling in the shelter environment. Lots of recovery and several foster stays later, Wendy is our 90,000th adoption since our founding in 1997!”
The video shows Wendy soaking up all the attention from people, her tail going crazy as she plays and bounces with a toy. Turns out, the foster family that had had Wendy since April ended up adopting her.
“We share that accomplishment with each and every one of you who has welcomed a PAWS pet into your hearts and homes,” the shelter said.
“Seeing the happiness and excitement of new families leaving our Adoption Center together, and getting updates from you all over the years, is our favorite part of the work we do. Thank you x90,000 today.”
